We use tools like moisture meters to determine moisture levels when your property experiences water damage.
Even small water damages have the potential to cause serious structural and indoor air quality issues over time. The key to avoiding costly future restoration is to handle every water problem as a real threat to your property. SERVPRO of Kaufman County / Mesquite professionals have the equipment, training and experience to find and dry unseen water before secondary damages occur. The proper equipment makes a measurable difference in reducing the damage expense during a fire damage or water loss. When time matters, technology and equipment must be counted on to perform. SERVPRO of Kaufman County / Mesquite will answer your call with fast action and a full arsenal of drying equipment. Here are a few of the tools used by our professionals.
- Moisture Sensors are used to detect moisture in carpets, baseboards, and walls.
- Moisture Meters are used to determine the actual moisture content of various materials. The moisture tester provides accurate readings, allowing SERVPRO of Kaufman County / Mesquite professionals to monitor the drying process.
- Thermohydrometers measure temperature and relative humidity. When armed with this information, SERVPRO of Kaufman County / Mesquite professionals can calculate and create an environment most conducive to drying. When facing a contaminated water loss, it is not only important to dry the structure, but the structure must also be disinfected and often deodorized.
- Ultra Low-Volume foggers will atomize liquid deodorizing agents, producing a fine mist that can easily penetrate the site where odor-causing residues may accumulate. This device can also be used to inject fungicides and disinfectants into wall cavities and other hard-to-reach areas.
- Thermal Foggers dispense solvent-based products by creating a dense fog. The fog consists of tiny particles of deodorant solutions that attach to and neutralize odor causing particles.

Help Protect Your Property With Prevention Tools
7/7/2020 (Permalink)
Because undetected water can cause a great deal of damage to a building structure and its contents, many property owners are investigating in water detection systems. Water leak detection systems are available to help identify leaks, which can help prevent them from becoming floods. Water monitoring systems are typically activated at the first sign of seepage or moisture resulting from leakage. Help protect your commercial or residential property by utilizing a water monitoring system.
Water Alarms: Water alarms, also known as leak -sensors, are typically battery-operated stand-alone systems containing a moisture sensor that will activate and audible alarm when moisture is detected. Benefits of water alarms include accessibility and price. They can be places in basements or sum pumps, under sinks or near individual appliances such as washers, refrigerators, hot water heaters, etc. and are fairly inexpensive and easy to install. Some water alarms will actually shut off the water once a leak is detected, while others will simply sound an alarm to notify you of a leak. This particular water monitoring device is only beneficial if someone is inside the building to hear the alarm and take appropriate action to stop the leak.
Water Systems: While most water alarms simply notify you of a leak, water systems will actually shut off the water supply causing water damage. Individual appliances systems are installed in specific appliances and will automatically shut off the water supply in the event that the appliances has a leak. Whole house systems operate in a similar fashion except that the shut-off valve is installed on the main water supply line versus and individual appliance. This system is the most popular and beneficial to homeowners that travel often or reside in multiple properties seasonally throughout the year.

7/7/2020 (Permalink)

The truth about mold
4/17/2019 (Permalink)
Mold occurs naturally throughout the environment- both indoors and outdoors. In fact, mold spores could probably be found in nearly every structure in the United States, regardless of how new or clean the structure is. That's because mold is no more dangerous than dust or pollen.
Even though some forms of mold can add value to our lives, other forms can be harmful. Excessive amounts of mold, different types of mold and/or exposure to molds may present health concerns for some people.
If there us an ongoing moisture problem in your office, your home, or in your customer's home, it is important to be alert for:
- The presence of visible mold
- strong, musty odors which may indicate mold is present

Facts about mold
4/17/2019 (Permalink)
Mold has existed since ancient times. The human species has always lived in the presence of mold. There are over 100,000+ species of mold identified. The unique flavor of bleu cheese is produced by mold.
We are constantly exposed to thousands of different types of fungi in our everyday lives. Certain types of fungi tend to exist naturally in soils, plants, fruits and textiles. Exposure to these fungi in naturally occurring doses is generally not harmful to health.
While the types and concentrations of fungi existing in the environment vary from one geographic region to another, the most common types are as follows: Aspergillus (most common), alternaria, bipolaris, chaetomium, fusarium, penicillin, and paecilomyes.
Mold Needs The Right Environment To Grow
Water, moisture or high humidity.
Food (any organic substance)
The right temperature (generally 68*F-86*F, but some can grow in 30*F or colder)
Lack of Ventilation
Mold presents greater challenges to young children, the elderly and other immunosuppressed people.
Some molds can produce toxins if the environment conditions are right.
